Remo's Invitation to Race In France 19/02/2010

Remo Racing Team Australia is heading to France this June and you can be a part of the team if you're a leopard competitor!

IAME continue to support Australian drivers year after year, and in 2010 they will 'again' support Aussie drivers by offering them the drive of a lifetime!

Remo Racing is excited about fielding a great team of drivers to represent Australia, and seek expressions of interest from drivers keen to experience the excitement and professionalism of a truly world-class, international event.

Remo Racing is excited to offer ALL Australian Leopard karters an amazing opportunity - the invitation to race at the Bruno Grana International Trophy at the Lavelanet International Circuit in France!

Remo Racing is extremely proud to be part of this fantastic package not available to Europen countries and thank IAME very much for assisting in the costs for Australian's to have the opportunity to compete overseas competitively.

Racing internationally can be an eye-opening experience, and many Australian karters dream of the opportunity to race at such an event. Usually, such opportunities are only earned by winning a long, difficult and expensive racing series here in Australia. The Bruno Grana International Trophy is different, with entry being open to ALL Loyal Leopard competitors with a valid AKA licence - YOU could be racing at this event!

The Bruno Grana is an "arrive and drive" event, and the entry fee provides a fully prepared chassis and engine, AND your own personal mechanic who is completely responsible for your kart!

Entrants at the Bruno Grana will literally step off the plane, put on their racesuit and helmet, and take to the track!

The entry fee, which covers almost everything, is just €2,950 Euro. The racing will be conducted from June 10th to June 13th, 2010.

Interested parties should contact REMO LUCIANI for further details:

Mobile: 0418 340640
E-mail: remo20@bigpond.com

Entries must be in by 20/04/10.

IAME SpA have reserved for REMO RACING the following package deal for Australian drivers.

• Supply of a DR, Alpha, Tecno or Zanardi chassis (subject to availability)
• Supply of a IAME X30 motor + maintenance service by the IAME technical team,
• 3 sets of slick tires MGS (1 set for the free practice, 2 sets for the race)
• Consumables for race (chain, sprocket ...)

• Entry Fee for the race and the track access for Thursday and Friday,
• Availability of an experienced kart mechanic
• Meals, driver and mechanic from Thursday noon to Sunday noon (entry, main course, dessert, drink, coffee)
• Accommodation for the mechanic (Wednesday evening to Saturday evening)

THE COMPLETE PACKAGE PRICE: 2,950 EURO

The following points remain the only responsibility of the driver:

• International licence C
• Personal equipment (helmet, overalls, boots and gloves)
• Travel for the driver and his/her entourage
• Hosting for the driver and his/her entourage

Vale: Kieran Brennan 15/02/2010

It is with great saddness and shock that we report the passing of Kieran Brennan. Kieran was a much valued customer and friend of MKC who was a genuinely ripper bloke who loved the sport.  He raced Monaco kart number 89 in Clubman Heavy and will be missed by many.  Bye mate...

MKC Vic Open Day One Update 13/02/2010

After an excellent start the MKC crew of drivers and supporter are looking forward to day two of the Vic Open. Yesterday we scored four pole positions in Leopard Light, Leopard Heavy, Clubman Light and Clubman Superheavy as well as a few heat wins and lots of our drivers are right in the thick of things at the pointy end of the field. Today we hope to push on and consolidate with the prefinal and remaining heat to complete. Keep an eye on the website for regular twitter updates from the commentary booth. Gotta go. . . .time to get moving! Steve

MKC makes a good start at the Vic open 12/02/2010

Victorian drivers have used their local knowledge to their advantage on qualifying day at the 2010 Victorian Karting Championships being hosted by the Oakleigh Go Kart Racing Club in Melbourne, Victoria today.

Adam Hughes led the charge for the local competitors by setting the pace in both the 125cc Leopard Light and 100cc Clubman Light categories.

Hughes was a class above the field in the Leopard Light category aboard his Melbourne Kart Centre Kosmic kart posting a time almost half a second faster than his nearest rival James Sera.

In Clubman Light Hughes also finished on top of the timing sheets ahead of a Sera with a time of 41.249 seconds, however, this time it was Sera’s younger cousin David, who is the reigning national champion in the category. James Sera qualified third fastest in his Azzurro kart with a time of 41.501 seconds ahead of Chris Hays, who is making debut in the senior ranks, in his Vodafone-backed Tony Kart.

“It is a great way to start the weekend, I’ve probably done more laps around this place than anyone else in the past few years but in saying that both James and David have also done thousands of laps around here during their career,” said 21 year-old Hughes.

“About two years ago I found a sweet spot in the set-up of my Kosmic kart, ironically it was with the help of James (Sera) when he was my team-mate, and since then I very rarely change much from track to track.

“I’m a little bit surprised by the margin between myself and second fastest, the focus now is to finish the job off over the weekend.

“Last year I won Leopard Light and finished second in Clubman Light, it would be nice to get the double this year.”

Phil Smith Joins MKC 09/02/10

Melbourne Kart Centre is pleased to announce that Phil Smith has joined the Melbourne Kart Centre Race Team for the 2010 season.  After initially beginning in the Clubman class Phil has been steadily improving, having started in the sport several years ago.

In 2009 he made the podium on a regular basis with some of the more significant achievements being wins in Tag R at the City Of Melb Titles, Australasian C Grade titles. He also won the Bairnsdale Open in both Clubman and Tag R Classes.

Phil is now competing in the open Leopard class in his Kosmic chassis and claimed pole position at the recent Vic Open Shakedown. He will also be racing at the Vic Open this weekend. Phil will be running in the Leopard Heavy and Clubman Over 40s classes and his dedication and ability should stand him in good stead.

Upon joining the team Phil said “I have been enjoying my racing more and more in recent years and I am very excited about the coming year as together with MKC. I feel it will bring a new sense of focus and professionalism to what I do on and off the track. I just can’t wait to get stuck into the 2010 calendar. I want to develop my skills with the MKC team, benefiting from their knowledge while also helping other MKC drivers achieve their goals too.”

MKC’s Race Director Roger Polak added, “Phil’s sense of dedication and focus is impressive. He has been running over 10k a week and his race fitness has really improved. He will be a handy asset to the team as well as other MKC drivers looking to benefit from his experience and friendly attitude.

Phil will be competing for MKC at the Vic Open in the Clubman Over 40s and Leopard Classes with many major meets to follow in 2010.

Superkarts to Test at Mount Panorama 06/02/10

By Mark Jones, 5 February 2010

Superkarts will make their first ever appearance at Australia's most famous motor racing venue, Mount Panorama, Bathurst next weekend as part of the festivities of the Bathurst 12 Hour.

Six Superkarts will take to the six kilometre circuit on Friday, February 12 for a test session to test the feasibility of racing at the New South Wales venue in the future. The six drivers represent each of the three most popularly contested Superkarting classes and each will record their impressions prior to CAMS, the governing body of Australian motor racing, giving approval for Superkarts to be able to compete. The three classes represented are 250cc International, 125cc Gearbox and Rotax Max.

The feasibility test came from an initiative started by the Superkart Club of New South Wales, after an invitation from Bathurst 12 Hour organisers, Yeehah Events. An extensive safety study of the fabled and fast racing circuit was conducted by Workplace Safety specialist Ian Mash of Superkart Club of New South Wales with the report submitted to CAMS last year.

"Having ridden this wave from day one, it's with much excitement for not only the Superkart Club of NSW, but Superkarts in Australia that this opportunity has arisen," said Wayne Horswell, President of the Superkart Club of New South Wales. "James O'Brien from Yeehah Events and CAMS deserve a lot of praise for opening a door that has the ability to put this little known, inexpensive category on show."

If approved it will be the first time in over forty years that winged open wheel racing cars will have raced at Mount Panorama. In 1970 in the only appearance of the V8 powered Formula 5000 category, Neil Allen set a lap record that took the touring cars of the Bathurst 1000 thirty years to eclipse. Since then Formula Ford and Formula Vee, two categories that race on treaded tyres and run without aerodynamic wings have been the only open wheel racing cars to race at Bathurst. In recent years a former American Indycar has completed demonstration runs during Bathurst Festival weekend.

Strictly a feasibility demonstration run, the six drivers, who include Australia's most decorated Superkart racer, seven time Australian champion Warren McIlveen, will not be setting aggressive lap times and are not expected to approach Greg Murphy's famous fastest ever lap, although they will be exploring capabilities of their karts on the circuit.

“I can’t wait to drive a Superkart around the prestigious Mount Panorama Circuit,” said McIlveen. “I feel it will be very exhilarating but a little bit scary driving between those concrete walls at speeds up to 240kph. It is also going to be an awesome spectacle watching Superkarts literally fly up and across the mountain. Many thanks to all the organisers.”

The six Superkart drivers are: 250 International drivers Tamworth-based McIlveen and Melbourne's Gary Pegoraro, 125cc Gearbox drivers, Sydneysiders Jeff Reed and Ian Mash and Rotax Max: Wayne Horswell and Alan Dodge also from Sydney. Each of the six will be contributing to the final report.

Superkarts are one of Australia's fastest motor racing categories and also one of the most cost-effective. Built around a specialist kart racing chassis which are constructed in both Europe and Australia, these pocket rockets are powered by a mix of specialist kart racing engines, and by 250cc and 125cc Grand Prix motorcycle engines. Producing approximately 100 horsepower in the 250 International class, the karts themselves weigh just 215 kg, making for a power-to-weight ratio unmatched in Australian motorsport at an operating budget of as little as 5% of comparably swift racing categories.

Matt Lane Joins MKC 14/01/10

MKC Team Melbourne Kart Centre is pleased to announce that Matthew Lane has joined the Melbourne Kart Centre Race Team for the 2010 season.  Matt is an outstanding up and coming talent from the Junior National Light class who has only been karting for 2 years, but has already showed some excellent speed.

Towards the end of Rookies he started to experience some success with a number of podiums and upon the move to Juniors he quickly adapted to the new class and found himself on the podium again.

Matt competed in JNL at a number of major meets including the All Star Series, City of Melbourne Titles and showed great potential in very talented fields.

Upon joining the team Matt said “I am very excited to be joining the MKC Racing Team and I think this is a great step forward in developing my karting career. The MKC team has a history of exceptional performance at State and National level and I just want to learn as much as possible from the team. “

MKC’s Race Director Roger Polak added, “We were really looking for a good young steerer such as Matt to step up to the next level in the Junior National class and he show’s a level of dedication to the sport which should see him climbing the ladder very soon.  Matt is a very handy test driver too and so we hope he will be able to share his knowledge with other MKC drivers, so that we can all benefit together.”

Matt will kick off his role in the MKC Team by racing in this Friday’s Top Gun event at Oakleigh, which is his home track.
