MKC wins City of Melbourne Titles: 18/8/8

After a trying weekend MKC drivers' found their way to the front with great performances in the highly competitive Leopard and Clubman classes. The weekend got off to a soggy start with qualifying in the wet.

The pits were full of frenzied activities as wets were fitted and setup changes were made.

MKC’s Steve Polak also surprised with a very solid performance in Clubman Superheavy. The class produced a very respectable number of entries with Steve managing to pole the class with a 1,01.2 time to take top spot. Sadly the rest of the racing was in the dry and Steve was unable to maintain his spot at the front (although he loved the Todd Rd circuit).

Thankfully other MKC powered steerers James Sera, Adam Hughes, Josh Brooker and Rotax driver Mark Hunt made it on to the podium at the end of the day.

The final of Leopard was particularly exciting with James Sera and Adam Hughes leading from the get go and delivering a solid win from behind the wheel of their T11 Kosmic karts. James also won clubman light with a three second lead in his new Monaco GP6.  Josh Brooker scored a third place trophy is Leopard Heavy and Mark Hunt should also be congratulated, scoring third in a very gritty drive from the back of the field.

Wimmera Kart club open

At the Wimmera Kart club open on the weekend MKC Rookie pilot Mathew Lane had a great weekend’s racing and scored his first podium. Read Here to find out how it all came together. . . . .

Vale Russell Miller 21/07/2008

It is with great sadness and some shock that we here at Melbourne Kart Centre report the passing of our valued customer and friend Russell Miller. Russell was a regular competitor in the Clubman 040s class where he raced his number 68 Monaco GP5 kart. Although the details surrounding his death are still a little sketchy, Russell apparently collapsed in his motel room on Friday night whilst away racing at the Bendigo Power Series round held last weekend.

He had only been in our shop that very day picking up some tyres for the weekend and he was looking forward to having a go at a new track. You often hear stories of how great a person was after they go, but in Russell's case this was genuinely true! We never heard a complaint from him, he never argued with other competitors and was always happy to help out where he could.

The Oakleigh club will remember Russell this club day as racing goes on as usual and it will be a sad day on the grid with Russell's #68 kart not there. But we will all be there doing what we love, just as Russell would if he could. Thanks for being a great customer and a top bloke Russell, we will miss your smiling face walking through the door at MKC.

MKC Update 17/07/08

This week MKC will be at a number of tracks about the place. Some of us (Steve actually) will be competing in beautiful Bendigo at the 3rd round of the Power series. Steve will be on hand to help MKC customers and will have the van stocked with parts should you need anything. But wait. . . .there is more. Roger and James will also be testing the new Monaco GP6 prior to its competitive debut at a track which is as yet unknown. So have a great weekend and see you at the track!

Attention Superheavies - Vacc Park Awaits! 17/07/08

Having just spoken to John Wall from VACC Park (Todd Rd circuit in case you didn't know) we are delighted to report that for the first time in meny years the BIG BOYS are back. Clubman Superheavy will be offered as a class for the City Of Melbourne Titles. This is a big deal and the result of a fair bit of lobbying on behalf of the Superheavy cause. So the challenge now goes out to the CSH community (us big blokes!). If you want to ensure that Superheavy gets offered a little more regularly as an open class at the city tracks you have to make sure you support it this time around by running the City Of Melbourne event this time. You can get in touch with Stella Pringle and enter the event by checking out the contacts section of the Go Kart Club Of Victoria website.

Oakleigh Clubday report Feb 08 1/3/08

The MKC crew kicked off 2008 in style at Oakleigh last weekend with many wins and placings going to MKC racers.  In Clubman Light James Sera took the win from Bart Price, with Frankie Costanzo coming home 3rd.  James used his MOnaco GP5 chassis and MKC Engines Yamaha to set the fastest time in each heat, which was tough considering the hard charging Bart Price was with him all the way.

In Leopard Light Adam Hughes had his Kosmic kart and MKC Leopard going full tilt as he managed to fin the first and third heat by a healthy margin.  Fastest lap in each race also went to Hughesy.

In Leopard Heavy David Yuill was on a mission settting some of the fastest times seen in LH for quite some time.  All three heat wins went to Dave to give him 1st for the day, with fellow Tecno driver Richard Camilleri home in 2nd and Monaco B-Max driver David Tolley grabbing 3rd spot.

Clubman Superheavy produced top racing too with 13 entries fronting up, which is well up on last year's numbers.  Monaco driver Chris Heraud won the day with MKC Engines/Arrow driver Mick Fisher in 2nd place.  3rd also in a Monaco was newcomer to the class (having come from Rotax) Mark Hunt.

Clubam o'35s was saw Phil Smith get his Monaco and MKC Engine home in 2nd place just ahead of Andy 'Pup' Yuill who put in an excellent performance to grab 3rd. Dave Yuill backed up his Leopard win with 4th in the class too. In Junior National Light MKC Monaco man Ben Capuano scored 2nd place, making it a pretty good day for the Team Black Magic guys.

MKC wins 2 state titles! 13/2/08

MKC drivers won two state titles at the Victorian Open Championships at Geelong last weekend.  Cameron Waters won the tough Junior National Light class while James Sera claimed victory in the hard fought Leopard Light class.  MKC's Adam Hughes backed up the win by grabbing 2nd place in Leopard Light too.

Cameron qualified on the front row for the event and ran right at the front during the heat races before battling with drivers such as James Kovacic, Tyler Greenbury and Matthew Brabham in the final. As they crossed the finish line Cam had the win ahead of fellow Kosmic kart driver Kovacic, with Steve Mackenzie in third.  This was Cam's 3rd ever event in the Junior class having moved up from Rookies at the start of 08. Well done Cam!

The winning ways of MKC continued in the following Leopard Light race, where James Sera started from pole position aboard his MKC Engines powered Kosmic kart. James had won the pre-final event after working his way up from a poor qualifying position. But it didn't matter as James quickly moved into the lead of the final and set about building a handy lead.  Behindd him were some of Australia's best karters including cousin Dave Sera, Jason Hynuik, Hayden McBride, Jason Burns and fellow MKC Kosmic driver Adam Hughes, who was rapidly moving through the pack.  At the chequered flag James had a 1.8 second win over the flying Adam Hughes, making it a fantastic one - two victory for the MKC Leopard drivers.

MKC thanks drivers Cam Waters, James Sera and Adam Hughes for the great drives and the support team including Roger Polak, Steve Polak, Grahman Ritter, Grant Lindstrom, Jarrod Waters, Chris Waters, Mr. Shoes! and Josh Brooker for putting in such a top effort.
