Dream Run for John Reynolds!

Oakleigh based Leopard driver John Reynolds scores his first meeting win at the Rochester Kart Club on the weekend at the 2nd Round of the hugely popular Power Series!

The well liked Reynolds dominated the event, snagging three race victories and the all important 1st place trophy in challenging conditions. Reynolds was competing in the Leopard Pro class driving a Melbourne Kart Centre prepared Tecno V12S Leopard combination.

The first win was in the opening heat with the field battling the wet and slippery Rochester winter. Starting 3rd John made his way to the front and was never headed and this set a pattern for the racing on Sunday.

As racing got under way on the final day John made a good start in the third heat, and after slotting into third place, quickly passed the karts in front of him to take the lead. From there he stretched the field by driving smoothly and laying down consistently fast lap times. The final was an even more decisive affair with Reynolds never looking like being passed. Experienced leopard competitor Geoff Wyhoon did a good job of hanging onto Reynolds’ rear bumper for a few laps, but then John’s Tecno drove off into the distance, earning him a comfortable 4-5 second gap.

After also placing third in the opening event in the series Reynolds will now aim for a strong showing while attending the remaining rounds. A ‘tilt at the podium’ is well and truly in his sights.

Oddly enough Reynolds’s win was something MKC owner and friend Steve Polak had dreamt about the Saturday night before the final two races. “I don’t usually dream about customers or their racing, but I woke up at six am and said to my partner ‘hey I just dreamt John won it’” Steve said.

Reynolds was delighted with the weekend. “The win was a dream come true and I was ecstatic to cross the line first. All of the hard work and effort, increasing my regime of testing with teammate Richard Camilleri and working on kart setup has paid off. The setup advice I got from Roger Polak and Adam Hughes (Adam also drives a Tecno Leopard at Oakleigh) has made all of the difference. I never thought racing could be this much fun and can’t wait to hit the track. Special thanks to Steve for his weird premonition,” John said.

John will be racing at the Eastern Lions kart club when the 3rd round takes place in November.
